In Bedtime Story, gravestones in a graveyard resemble the shape of a bed’s headboard. The image suggests how close death is to everyday life. Each time we sleep, we are briefly absent from consciousness, a state that echoes death. The comfort of a bed transforms into a gravestone, and the nightly ritual of lying down becomes disturbingly similar to resting in a grave.
